The European Space Agency (ESA) launches in January 2017 the “Kick-start” call, an opportunity designed to enable companies to undertake short feasibility studies to explore new services and application concepts that make use of space capabilities.
The European Space Agency’s Austrian IAP Ambassador, Science Park Graz, invites Austrian entities to submit their proposals to the Kick-start initiative.
ESA Kick-start will be launched based on thematic calls, using a simplified application process and under a commitment to rapid evaluation (6 weeks from proposal to start).
In the first semester 2017, the thematic launch plan is the following:
- Outdoor tourism (opens 30 January, closes 13 March)
- Automated road transport (opens 13 March, closes 24 April)
- Ageing population (opens 24 April, closes 29 May)
- Food security (opens 29 May, closes 10 July)
Activities will be funded at 75%, with ESA providing up to €60,000 per contract. The Kick-start calls for proposals will be open to any industry and are expected to be particularly interesting for SMEs and start-ups looking for opportunities to develop their ideas for new services.
Successful Kick-start activities can be further developed into commercially-viable businesses with follow-up support from ESA IAP programme.
